The Bank Note Museum numbers that date, with titles Gerente and Abogado Subgerente, as Pick 429d, and groups it with 01.04.1987, 01.04.1988, and 01.11.1988. Distinct from Thomas De La Rue’s 428 and from 429A of Santa Fe de Bogotá. Numista cites P# 429d / TBB B967i / Hernández 365 for the circulating note of this date. González White 2019 (pp. 94–95, DOSCIENTOS PESOS 1987 to 1992 spread) lists 1 April 1989, Mutis, IBB, and a star replacement; the spread does not give a specimen printage. The OCR jumbles BG# against dates: no guessed BG# is published here. BanRep’s 1989 table records 122 million 200-peso notes: that is the denomination-year total, not this specimen’s printage. This record does not invent a printage.

The note
The Banco de la República printed this two-hundred-peso oro at its Imprenta de Billetes, opened in Bogotá on 23 October 1959. González White 2019 dedicates the type to José Celestino Mutis y Bosio, priest and naturalist, director of the Botanical Expedition that Viceroy Antonio Caballero y Góngora created at Mariquita in March 1783. The Bank Note Museum numbers that plant’s paper as Pick 429 (1983–1991) and distinguishes it from Thomas De La Rue’s Pick 428 and from Pick 429A of Santa Fe de Bogotá. This piece’s date, 1 April 1989, falls in group 429d: titles Gerente and Abogado Subgerente. Numista groups the design under N# 205269 and cites P# 429d / TBB B967i / Hernández 365 for the circulating note of that date, signatures FJO₂ and RSM. This piece is a specimen of that date: black serials 00000000, twice; a diagonal red “MUESTRA SIN VALOR” overprint on face and back; two cancellation punches; and red control 499 at the lower-left margin. It has no De La Rue ovals and no “SPECIMEN Nº.” The printed date is “BOGOTÁ: 1º DE ABRIL DE 1989.” The face, green on a multicolour underprint, carries a towered building in a medallion at left and the portrait labelled “MUTIS”; at center, the promise to pay the bearer two hundred gold pesos; at right, the registration device with the motto “CON HUMBOLDT.” The signatures are those of Francisco José Ortega (gerente) and Roberto Salazar Manrique (abogado-subgerente), the pair Numista assigns to this date. The back shows the cloister of the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario — “LA BORDADITA,” Bogotá — the bank’s Liberty seal, and the imprint “IMPRENTA DE BILLETES — BOGOTÁ.” González White 2019 (pp. 94–95) lists 1 April 1989, Mutis, IBB, and a star replacement of that date; the OCR jumbles BG# against dates: no guessed BG# is published here. Scarcity and printage
González White 2019 (pp. 94–95) lists the circulating 1 April 1989 date, IBB, and a star replacement; it does not give a specimen printage. Numista groups the design under N# 205269 and marks the circulating date’s frequency at 11% among owners of the type; it lists a specimen with a “MUESTRA SIN VALOR” overprint on the 1987 date at 0%. The Bank Note Museum describes 429d as 01.04.1987, 01.04.1988, 01.11.1988, and 01.04.1989, with titles Gerente and Abogado Subgerente. BanRep’s 1989 table assigns 122 million pieces to every 200-peso note of that year. This record does not invent a specimen printage or replace the circulating emisión with that denomination-year total.
Population
A PMG or PCGS census for control 499 of this Pick 429ds has not been independently verified. The note is shown in a sleeve, unslabbed.
