The note

The Banco de la República ordered the first dates of this two-thousand-peso oro from Thomas De La Rue of London. The Bank Note Museum numbers Pick 430 in 1983–1986 and distinguishes it from later Imprenta de Billetes issues (Pick 433 and 433A). This piece is a specimen of the first date: 24 July 1983. The PCGS holder catalogs it as SCWPM# 430as; Numista records the 1983 specimen as P# 430s / TBB B971as. The face, in brown and orange, carries Simón Bolívar’s portrait at left with a smaller scene beside it, and at center the promise to pay the bearer two thousand gold pesos. The printed date is “BOGOTÁ D.E., 24 DE JULIO DE 1983.” The serials are zeros (00000000); in red are “SPECIMEN Nº 030,” a diagonal SPECIMEN, and De La Rue ovals reading “SPECIMEN / NO VALUE.” Two cancellation punches cut the paper. The signatures are those of Hugo Palacios Mejía (gerente) and Francisco José Ortega (secretario), the pair Numista assigns to that date (HPM, FJO₁). The back reproduces Francisco Antonio Cano’s “Paso del Páramo de Pisba,” with the bank seal and the figures 2000. PCGS certificate 59068295 grades it 64 Very Choice New, with the comments “Hole Punch Cancelled” and “Minor Mounting Remnants on Back.” It should not be confused with the 1985–1986 dates of the same design or with the Bogotá printings of Pick 433. This record gathers both sides of the same holder.

Scarcity and printage

Numista groups circulating notes and specimens of the design under N# 236486, with a rarity index of 32, and marks the 1983 specimen’s frequency at 0% among owners of the type. The Bank Note Museum describes 430a as the 24.07.1983 date, printed by Thomas De La Rue. This record does not invent a specimen printage.

Population

The note is slabbed by PCGS Currency as 64 Very Choice New, certification 59068295, with the comments Hole Punch Cancelled and Minor Mounting Remnants on Back. A population census for that holder number has not been independently verified.
