Cocobola

Cocobola

Nickname for Colombian 50-centavo silver coins ordered in New York about 1887, with a Liberty bearing the profile of Soledad Román, wife of Rafael Núñez. The political scandal and the execution in Panama of a bandit nicknamed Cocobolo gave the name. Not the lazaretto coscoja.
