The note

The Series 2003 $1 (Pick 515a, Friedberg 1929-F*) is a small-size Federal Reserve Note of the Atlanta district: a black seal with F, 6s in the four inner corners, and the bank legend “FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF ATLANTA GEORGIA.” The black face with green seal and serials carries George Washington in an oval and, at right, the Treasury seal over ONE. The signatures are Rosario Marin and John W. Snow, delivered to the BEP on 5 March 2003. The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is already on the back. Plate marks are C3 at upper left and FW C 222 at lower right: the FW prefix identifies the Fort Worth plant. The green back shows both faces of the Great Seal — the pyramid and the eagle — flanking ONE; plate 88 sits to the right of the central block. This collection piece, circulated and unslabbed, is in a rigid holder and bears replacement serial F 05033622 ★ (F★ block), printed at lower left and upper right.

Scarcity and printage

Series 2003 $1 notes — Marin–Snow signatures, printed from July 2003 through October 2005 — were everyday Reserve paper. The Bank Note Museum numbers the type P-515a. Atlanta had 1,075,200,000 regular notes and 3,520,000 stars in two runs. The first, July 2003 in Washington (Fr. 1928-F*, F00000001★–F00320000★, 320,000 notes), is the scarce one. This piece falls in the second: Fort Worth, August 2005, Fr. 1929-F*, F03200001★–F06400000★, 3,200,000 notes. A star marks a replacement; this FW run is the common Atlanta star of the series.
