Imprenta de Billetes, Banco de la República, Bogotá. Date printed on the face: 19 August 2009. Published size 130 × 65 mm; eight digits, no series letter; both serials on the back. González White 2019 numbers this date BG# 490 r/10 (p. 122), emisión N.D., with the note “Braille.” The next row, 490 r/11, is 20 August 2009. The Bank Note Museum lists 19.08.2009 as Pick 457k and 20.08.2009 as 457l. Numista assigns TBB B988j and Hernández 513 to 19.08.2009, with signatures JDUE and GHC. BanRep’s 2009 production of 2,000-peso notes is 235.4 million pieces: that is every note of that face value that year, not the printage of this date or this serial. No printage is published here.

Face

Face of the 2,000 pesos, Pick 457k: Santander, the date 19 August 2009, the red triangle, and the legend DOS MIL PESOS. The serials are on the back.

Back

Back of the 2,000 pesos, Pick 457k: the Casa de Moneda portal and radar serial 70200207, in black and in green.

The note

The reduced two-thousand, 130 × 65 mm, carries Francisco de Paula Santander and, on the back, the portal of Bogotá’s Casa de Moneda. González White numbers the type BG# 490; this piece is row 490 r/10, dated “19 DE AGOSTO DE 2009,” with braille. The Bank Note Museum marks it Pick 457k; Numista, TBB B988j and Hernández 513. 20 August 2009 is another date (490 r/11 / Pick 457l), not this serial. The signatures are those of José Darío Uribe Escobar, general manager, and Gerardo Hernández Correa, executive manager: the pair before José Tolosa, whose first date on this type is 22 August 2011 (BG# 490 r/15). The back imprint reads “IMPRENTA DE BILLETES – BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA.” Serial 70200207 appears in black at left and in green at right. It is a radar: it reads the same forwards and backwards. It is not binary, solid, a ladder, or a repeater, and it is not a low serial (1–100). It carries no replacement marker (asterisk, star, R, or diamond). On the face, at left, the red triangle sits in the watermark area. It should not be confused with this collection’s 20 August 2008 2,000 (binary radar serial 10000001), the Bolívar 2,000 pesos oro (Pick 430/433), the large 1996–2005 2,000 (Pick 445/451), or the Débora Arango 2,000 (Pick 458). This record gathers both sides of the same unslabbed note.

The bank

From 1993 Banco de la República notes dropped the legend “pesos oro.” The Santander and Casa de Moneda two-thousand replaced, in 1995–1996, the previous type. In November 2006 the bank put the reduced format into circulation (BG# 490 / Pick 457). González White notes braille on 19 August 2009; the Bank Note Museum and Numista record it from Pick 457k. The red triangle sits in the watermark area of the face. José Tolosa becomes executive manager on 22 August 2011. The 2016 family replaced the type in ordinary circulation. This serial, 70200207, is a radar distinct from the 2008 10000001: that one is also binary; this one is not.

Scarcity and printage

González White 2019 (BG# 490 r/10, p. 122) publishes no emisión figure for 19 August 2009 (N.D.). The Bank Note Museum marks that date as Pick 457k, with braille, and the next, 20.08.2009, as 457l. Numista groups the design under N# 205278 and marks the 19.08.2009 date’s frequency at 5% among owners of the type; that figure is for the date, not for radars. BanRep’s annual production table assigns 235.4 million pieces to every 2,000-peso note of 2009: that is not the printage of one date, signature pair, or serial. An eight-digit radar is a collector pattern; this record does not invent a population for that pattern.

Population

A PMG or PCGS census for serial 70200207 has not been independently verified. The note is shown unslabbed.
