Collectors seek rupiah notes signed by Purbaya

IDN Financials (Zetta Hannany and Kholid Rafsanjani, 24 September 2026) reports Bank Indonesia’s answer to the search for rupiah notes signed by former finance minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Those notes are not in Notofilia’s virtual collection. The report does not give a denomination, emission year, or serial number.

What the issuer said

Deputy governor Ricky P. Gozali placed the trend in what he called numismatics: some people prefer cash for a particular trait. Each note carries the signatures of the finance minister and the Bank Indonesia governor in office when it was issued. Because Purbaya’s time at the ministry lasted one year, notes with his signature are being sought. The bank added that new notes, already signed by the current minister, remain valid.

“This means the money can be used as legal tender for transactions throughout the Republic of Indonesia,” Ricky said at the Board of Governors press conference on Wednesday, 23 September.

He also acknowledged interest in collecting rupiah by emission year, design, serial number, and signatures. “We know this broadly as numismatics. There is nothing wrong with it; it is one of the branches related to the banknote collecting people do today,” he said. In this archive, that paper branch is notaphily; the bank used the broader word.

Face value still stands

Ricky stressed that the rupiah’s value remains the official face value. The bank also keeps supplying cash across the country. IDN Financials does not publish a collector price or an official rarity statement.
