Imprenta de Billetes, Bogotá. Banco de la República circulation issue; date on the note 20 July 1976. Published size: 140 × 70 mm. Eight-digit serial, no series letter, and no printer imprint. González White 2019 (p. 45) numbers this date BG# 096: IBB, 50,000,000 notes, serials 00.000.001 / 50.000.000. Serial 00194674 sits in that range. BG# 097 is the asterisk replacement of the same date (00.100.802 / 00.201.103); that row gives no numeric emisión, and 00194674 also sits in it. The face has no asterisk beside GERENTE or the date, so the piece is not BG# 097. Hernández (8th ed., 2023) gives the annex-2 asterisk interval 00108202–00200360 for 20 July 1976; 00194674 sits inside it, and the face is not that replacement. The Bank Note Museum groups type 413b under 20.07.1976, 01.01.1977, and 20.07.1977 — small serial, far from the upper border — distinct from 413a of 1972–1973 (ABNC). Greysheet records this date as B948d, Pick 413b, printer Imprenta de Billetes. Banknote World numbers it P-413b.1 and names ABNC; González White assigns 1976 to IBB. BanRep’s 1976 table records 31.1 million 2-peso notes: all production of that face value that year, not this date’s printage.

Face

Face of the 2 pesos oro, Pick 413b: Policarpa Salavarrieta, serial 00194674, and the date 20 July 1976.

Back

Back of the 2 pesos oro, Pick 413b: Muisca-style raft from the Museo del Oro, Liberty’s seal, and the figures 2.

The note

The Banco de la República printed this two-peso oro at its Imprenta de Billetes, opened in Bogotá on 23 October 1959. González White 2019 places the 1972 and 1973 dates with ABNC and the 1976 and 1977 dates with IBB; all are eight digits and without a printer imprint. 20 July 1976 is the first of those IBB dates (BG# 096). The face, violet on a pink, yellow, and green multicolour underprint, carries at left the portrait of Policarpa Salavarrieta — named under the oval — and at center the promise to pay the bearer two gold pesos. The serials are in red: 00194674, once vertically to the right of the portrait and once horizontally at upper right. There is no series letter. The printed date is “JULIO 20 DE 1976” over “BOGOTA - COLOMBIA.” The signatures are those of Germán Botero de los Ríos (gerente) and Antonio José Gutiérrez (secretario): Banknote World records them for P-413b.1; González White places Botero as gerente from 1970 to 1978. There is no asterisk beside GERENTE or the date. The number 00194674 also sits in the BG# 097 band (00.100.802–00.201.103) and in Hernández annex 2 (00108202–00200360). Without the asterisk, this piece is BG# 096, not the replacement. The back, brown on the same multicolour, shows the Muisca-style raft from the Museo del Oro, Liberty’s seal (“BANCO DE LA REPUBLICA / BOGOTA COLOMBIA”), and the legend “DOS PESOS ORO.” Type 413b, per the Bank Note Museum, covers 1976–1977 with a small serial far from the upper border. Banknote World gives 140 × 70 mm, no thread and no watermark, and names ABNC; González White and Greysheet (B948d) assign the date to IBB. It is not the 1977 2 pesos oro, serial 22214695 (BG# 100), documented on another record in this case, nor the 1944 ABNC note (Pick 390b) or the 1955 (Pick 390d). This piece is shown unslabbed.

Scarcity and printage

González White 2019 (BG# 096, p. 45) publishes 50,000,000 notes for the circulating 20 July 1976 date, IBB, eight digits, serials 00.000.001–50,000,000; serial 00194674 sits in that range. BG# 097 is the asterisk replacement of that date (00.100.802–00.201.103); González White publishes no emisión figure for that row, and 00194674 also sits in the interval. Hernández (8th ed., 2023) gives the annex-2 interval 00108202–00200360, which includes 00194674; the face carries no replacement asterisk. The Bank Note Museum describes Pick 413b as the 1976–1977 dates: Policarpa on the face and the Muisca raft on the back. Greysheet numbers the date B948d. It is neither a proof, a specimen, nor a replacement, nor the 1977 2 pesos oro (BG# 100), nor the Pick 390 of 1944 or 1955. Hernández and González White price columns are not republished. BanRep’s 1976 table (31.1 million 2-peso notes) is a denomination-year total, not this date’s printage. This record does not replace the BG# 096 emisión with that total.

Population

A PMG or PCGS census for serial 00194674 has not been independently verified. The note is shown unslabbed.
