Sabes (opens in a new tab) (Mario Saavedra, 13 October 2026, 17:38) covers the Fifth National Numismatic Meeting at the Municipal Gymnasium of Penco, during the long weekend before that date. There were 36 exhibitors from different regions. The offer, the note says, included coins, notes, stamps, magazines, and other collectibles. It is not a Notofilia fair and not an inventory of pieces identified here.
Mayor and organizers
Mayor Rodrigo Vera stressed tourism and culture, and cited those more than 36 exhibitors. Miguel Lagos, president of the Penco Numismatic Group, speaks of family memory: a neighbour whose great-grandfather signed a note she later saw at the central house. Lagos places these meetings outside Santiago, to bring north and south together and to attract children and young people.
Maule and the mint
Sabes highlights the exhibit of the Asociación Numismáticos del Maule. It recalls the founding of the Casa de Moneda de Chile in 1743 and the first coin of 1749: a half ounce of gold with Ferdinand VI. For Independence it cites the silver peso of 1817 with “Chile Independiente,” a volcano, and a laurel crown. Juan Carlos Contreras Troncoso, of that association, insists that the pieces tell Chile’s history. The Talca exhibit of the independent peso already covered that same association and that 1817 coin. Sabes publishes no prices.
