The note
This paper is not a Banco de la República note, nor a private-bank note. It is a ticket — a voucher or control stub — of the Ministry of National Education, headed SERVICIO ESTUDIANTIL DE TRANSPORTE. The face, green ink on cream stock, has a scalloped ornamental frame and a network ground. At top: MINISTERIO DE EDUCACION NACIONAL and SERVICIO ESTUDIANTIL DE TRANSPORTE. At center, a triangle with a rising sun over peaks; at left and right, the face value 15 ¢. At the foot, in quotation marks: “ESTUDIANDO MAS TRANSFORMAMOS A COLOMBIA.” There is no serial, no signatures, and no date. The back is blank: the face shows through. Collectors hunt it as a “bill”; this record treats it as a ticket. No Pick number or González White BG# is invented for it. The service
In Bogotá in the late 1950s, students at schools recognized by the Ministry of Education paid a reduced fare with tickets that bus companies supplied through the school, plus an identity pass (Díaz Jaramillo, on La República of 6 January 1959: a student fare of 12.5 centavos). Around 1960 the ordinary municipal or EDTU fare is cited at 15 centavos in cash, paid to the conductor (The Commercial Motor, 5 August 1960). This ticket carries a 15-centavos face and the ministry’s heading, not a bus company’s or the tram’s. There is no date on the paper: it is not assigned to 1969, and no decree is cited unless it appears here or in the gazette. The January 1969 transport subsidy — five pesos in cash, including secondary and university students — is something else: a cash allowance, not this voucher.
