Size 128 × 66 mm (Banrepcultural’s Numismatic Collection lists it as 66 × 128 mm). Two-letter prefix and eight digits, series AA. The Bank Note Museum dates type Pick 458 to 2015–2023 and lists 19.08.2015 as 458a; then 02.08.2016 (458b), 29.08.2017 (458c), and 2018–2023 dates unlettered in the Standard Catalog. González White 2019 numbers this date BG# NF2-1 (p. 146), series AA, and marks emisión ¿?; the book’s circulation date is 29 November 2016. Numista assigns TBB B993a to 19.08.2015 and groups prefixes AA–AD on that date (signatures JDUE / JTB). BanRep’s 2016 production of every 2,000-peso note is 251.5 million pieces, and Tesorería delivery of the 2016 Z family is 44.13 million: those are denomination totals for the year, not the printage of this date or this series. The 2015 figure (351.5 million) is the denomination total that year, still before the Z family. No printage is published here.

The note
In 2016 the Banco de la República put a new family into circulation — 2,000 to 100,000 — with a size per denomination, tactile marks, and an iconographic program that moves beyond independence heroes. On 29 November 2016 the two-thousand was the fifth note of that New Family: it would circulate alongside the Santander 2,000. The bank’s communiqué specifies the homage: to the painter Débora Arango Pérez (Medellín, 1907–Envigado, 2005) and to Caño Cristales, in the Serranía de la Macarena; the same design carries the leaves and fruit of the lechoso (Perebea xanthochyma) and the bird from “Las monjas y el cardenal.” González White numbers the 128 × 66 mm type as the NF2 listings; the Bank Note Museum, Pick 458 (2015–2023), printed by the Imprenta de Billetes in inks on paper. This piece carries the date “19 DE AGOSTO DE 2015” on the right edge of the back — 458a on that BNM table — and the imprint “IMPRENTA DE BILLETES - BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA.” The signatures are those of José Darío Uribe Escobar, general manager, and José Tolosa Buitrago, executive manager: the pair Numista and the 29 November 2016 communiqué assign to that first date (BG# NF2-1, series AA). The face, in blue, shows Arango standing at centre with her hands clasped and a close-up at right; at left, the lechoso in optically variable ink. Serial AA40000066 appears in black at upper left and lower right: it is fancy for five consecutive zeros (40000066). It is not a first-of-issue low serial (00000001–00000100) or a palindrome (40000066 does not read the same backwards). The back carries Caño Cristales, several birds — among them “El cardenal” — and a fragment of an Arango interview taken from the book Débora en plural. It should not be confused with the Santander 2,000 (Pick 457; in this collection the 2008 binary radar serial 10000001), with BNM dates 02.08.2016 (458b), 29.08.2017 (458c), or 2018–2023, or with the Bolívar 2,000 pesos oro. Banrepcultural register NBI6555 is another museum object, not this serial. This record gathers both sides of the same unslabbed note, in a sleeve.
The bank
Débora Arango Pérez (Medellín, 11 November 1907–Envigado, 4 December 2005) painted in watercolor, pencil, and oil; González White summarises the social and political critique in her work and that she was the first Colombian woman painter to paint nudes. The 2016 family places her on the two-thousand beside Caño Cristales, the lechoso, and the cardinal from “Las monjas y el cardenal.” The Banco de la República put the type into circulation on 29 November 2016, the fifth note of the New Family, running alongside the Santander 2,000. The Bank Note Museum dates Pick 458 printed dates from 2015 to 2023: this piece is the first, 19.08.2015 (458a), with the signatures of José Darío Uribe Escobar and José Tolosa Buitrago. Numista groups prefixes AA–AD on that date (TBB B993a). This record documents a series AA piece with fancy serial AA40000066, in a sleeve.
Scarcity and printage
González White 2019 (BG# NF2-1, p. 146) publishes no emisión figure for 19 August 2015 (¿?). The Bank Note Museum describes Pick 458 as the 2015–2023 type and marks 19.08.2015 as 458a. BanRep’s annual production table assigns 251.5 million pieces to every 2,000-peso note of 2016, and the Tesorería delivery table 44.13 million to the Z family: that is not the printage of one date, signature pair, or series AA. Numista groups the design under N# 204972, with a rarity index of 8, and marks the 19.08.2015 date’s frequency at 29% among owners of the type. An eight-digit serial with five consecutive zeros is a collector pattern; this record does not invent a population for that pattern or a printage.
Population
A PMG or PCGS census for serial AA40000066 has not been independently verified. The note is shown in a sleeve, apparently uncirculated, unslabbed.
