Mint offers 9/11 NEVER FORGET privy halves

CoinNews (Mike Unser, 10 September 2026) reports that the United States Mint began accepting preorders that day for Semiquincentennial Enduring Liberty half dollars with a NEVER FORGET privy mark around 9-11-01. Ordering opened at noon Eastern time and closes on 25 September at 3 p.m. ET. The coins are not part of Notofilia’s virtual collection.

Philadelphia, not West Point

Coins in this window are struck at Philadelphia, with a P mint mark. They pair the one-year design and the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 with that 9/11 privy. Non-privy Enduring Liberty halves released earlier for circulation came from Philadelphia and Denver. The John F. Kennedy portrait used since 1964 is replaced on the 2026 half.

CoinNews keeps another issue distinct: on 21 August the Mint presented the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum with 2,983 Enduring Liberty halves from West Point (W) carrying an ALWAYS REMEMBER 9-11-01 privy. That mintage, the note says, matches names on the Memorial — victims of 2001 and of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The Mint has not announced a public sale of those W coins. They are a separate type.

List price, not a valuation

The collector offering is circulating quality, copper-nickel: a 20-coin roll for US$40 (US$10 face) and a 100-coin bag for US$100 (US$50 face). CoinNews lists no mintage, product cap, or household limit. Shipping is expected to begin on 3 December.

The same design, without this mark, has been sold to collectors since 26 May: a two-roll set (Philadelphia and Denver) at US$60 and a 200-coin bag (100 from each mint) at US$180. Through 7 September, CoinNews cites 99,749 two-roll sets — 99.7% of a 100,000 product limit, already listed as unavailable — and 43,883 200-coin bags, 87.8% of 50,000. Those product sales together represent 12,766,560 Enduring Liberty halves, besides coins released into commerce.
